Optimal Ribbon Master Route

Step 1: Start in Gen 3 (Emerald / Colosseum / XD)

Obtain your Pokemon in Gen 3 first. Complete all Contest Ribbons in Emerald (all 5 categories at all 4 ranks = 20 ribbons), then tackle the Battle Tower. Colosseum and XD have exclusive ribbons you can only get there. Use the Mt. Battle 100-battle streak in Colosseum for the Earth Ribbon.

Step 2: Transfer to Gen 4 (Platinum / HGSS)

Use Pal Park to move your Pokemon to Gen 4. Platinum is preferred for Contests (all 5 categories, 4 ranks). Complete Battle Frontier facilities for those ribbons. Don't forget daily ribbons like the Footprint Ribbon from the footprint expert in Pastoria City.

Step 3: Skip Gen 5 (Transfer Only)

Gen 5 has no obtainable ribbons for transferred Pokemon. Use Poke Transfer to move through to Gen 6. This is purely a transit generation for ribbon masters.

Step 4: Gen 6 (ORAS / XY)

ORAS brings back Contests — complete all ranks. Battle Maison ribbons in both XY and ORAS. Training ribbons from Super Training. The Kalos and Hoenn Champion ribbons require beating the league with your Pokemon in your party.

Step 5: Gen 7 (USUM)

Battle Tree ribbons and the Battle Royal Master Ribbon. The Effort Ribbon from the effort lady if your Pokemon is fully EV-trained. Much fewer ribbons here — quick generation.

Step 6: Gen 8 (Sword/Shield)

Battle Tower Master Rank Ribbon is the main goal. The Master Rank Ribbon marks your Pokemon as having reached the top. Tower Master Ribbon from Ranked Singles/Doubles at Master Ball tier.

Step 7: Gen 9 (Scarlet/Violet)

Final stretch! The Paldea Champion Ribbon, Titan Mark, and various special ribbons. Marks are technically different from ribbons but count for the challenge. Complete ranked battles for the Master Rank Ribbon.
